EXIF vs C2PA

Need camera EXIF for archive or print? Strip only C2PA and XMP, keep standard EXIF when your workflow allows. The checker shows which blocks are present before you clean.

Workflow summary

Inspect one file → batch-clean with Remove AI Label → upload cleaned JPG → deliver Social_Ready copies. Browser-based processing keeps files on your device — useful for client galleries and listing photos.

TikTok Shop cares about image clarity, accurate product representation, and policy compliance. Meta and TikTok both increasingly read provenance metadata on uploads — cleaning before upload covers cross-channel promos.

Why TikTok Shop sellers hit AI false positives on Instagram

AI Info on Instagram appears when C2PA, XMP, or EXIF software fields trigger Meta's disclosure logic. TikTok Shop may apply its own authenticity signals separately — behavior evolves, which is why one cleaned master file for all channels is the stable approach.

Common seller triggers:

  • Photoroom batch exports for 100-SKU catalog launches
  • AI background removal on supplement and beauty bottles (high volume category on TikTok Shop)
  • Generative Fill to extend canvas for square crop requirements
  • Re-export through Canva for "Shop Live tonight" Story templates after cleaning — re-attaches XMP

Creator affiliate programs multiply the problem: one uncleaned hero JPG sent to twenty creators means twenty labeled promos.

How I confirmed it was metadata

I uploaded one hero JPG to the AI metadata checker. C2PA and XMP from the cutout pipeline — fixable before upload.

What I do before every listing and promo (~30 seconds per image)

Step 1 — Inspect one file from the SKU set
Pick the image that showed AI Info (usually the white-background hero). Run it through the checker.

Step 2 — Batch-clean the catalog
I run product JPGs through Remove AI Label with C2PA and XMP removal enabled. Processing stays in the browser. Launch catalogs in 30-image passes — repeat until the Shop_Upload folder is complete.

Step 3 — Upload cleaned files everywhere
TikTok Shop Seller Center, then Instagram feed, Story, and Shopping ads — use the cleaned JPG. Instagram AI Info guide for Meta-specific upload tips.

Do not re-export from Canva for Live graphics after cleaning.

TikTok Shop Seller Center tips

  • Build Shop_Upload separate from Photoshop working files — only cleaned JPGs go to Seller Center.
  • Live shopping thumbnails are still JPGs — export from video editor as still, clean, upload — same pattern as CapCut still exports.
  • Share cleaned assets in creator briefs — include one line: "Use attached JPGs only; do not re-edit in Canva."
  • Variant SKUs with color swatches: inspect one template per cutout style.
  • Cross-list to eBay or WooCommerce? Clean once at master level — eBay listing guide, WooCommerce guide.

Mobile seller workflow

Phone photo → cutout app → export → metadata checker in mobile browser → clean → upload to TikTok Shop app and Instagram from the same cleaned copy.

TikTok video vs product still metadata

Product listing photos are JPGs — full C2PA/XMP risk. Shoppable video carries different metadata profiles. Clean listing heroes and Live stills explicitly; don't assume video pipeline covers product image uploads.

Creator commission and sample kit photos

Brands sending sample kits to creators often include uncleaned product JPGs in the press folder. Creators post labeled content; the brand looks non-compliant. Standardize cleaned assets in every affiliate onboarding email — same file for TikTok Shop listing and creator brief.

Category-specific image requirements

Beauty and supplement SKUs dominate TikTok Shop — categories with strict before/after and results imagery rules. Metadata cleaning doesn't replace category policy; it stops AI Info from appearing on legitimate product shots that already passed your QC.

Syncing TikTok Shop with Instagram Shopping

Merchants linking catalogs should upload identical cleaned JPGs to both systems. Updating TikTok Shop media without updating Meta catalog (or vice versa) leaves labeled ads running on stale URLs. After a clean batch, refresh both catalogs and purge ad creative caches.

When cleaning is not enough

Metadata removal fixes file-level triggers. It does not replace honest product representation on TikTok Shop, FDA or category-specific rules for supplements and cosmetics, or disclosure where generative AI created the product image itself. Use our [disclaimer]

TikTok Shop for my skincare line — serum bottles on white background, Photoshop cutouts, lifestyle flat lays for Live shopping thumbnails. Same heroes go to Instagram ads and creator affiliate posts.

TikTok Shop listing looked fine. Instagram showed AI Info under a product photo that's a real bottle on my desk.

Same JPG. Two platforms. The label followed metadata, not product authenticity — the same false positive Amazon sellers and Shopify stores report, with TikTok's commerce stack in the mix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TikTok Shop scan AI metadata on product listing photos?

TikTok applies AI and authenticity signals on commerce uploads. C2PA and XMP from Photoshop, Photoroom, or Canva cutouts can affect listing review and cross-post labels.

Why does Instagram show AI Info on my TikTok Shop promo images?

Sellers reuse the same product JPG for TikTok Shop, Instagram Shopping, and feed ads — Meta labels C2PA/XMP metadata even when TikTok Shop UI looks normal.

How to remove AI metadata from TikTok Shop product photos before upload?

Export final JPG, run metadata checker, strip C2PA and XMP in browser, upload cleaned file to TikTok Shop Seller Center and social promos.

Should I clean main image and variant photos separately?

Clean every JPG in the listing — hero, detail shots, lifestyle inserts, and thumbnail crops if exported separately from AI tools.

Can I batch-clean a TikTok Shop catalog before launch?

Process up to 30 images per session, download ZIP, repeat until SKU folders are ready, then bulk-upload via Seller Center.
