What does "AI label" mean on your photo?

If you've posted a photo on Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest lately and seen "Made with AI" appear beneath your post — you've encountered an AI label. These labels are triggered by hidden metadata embedded in your image file. When you create or edit an image using AI tools like Midjourney, DALL-E, Adobe Firefly, or Stable Diffusion, those tools write invisible digital markers into the file. The markers include: the name of the AI tool used, generation parameters (your prompt, seed, settings), timestamps and version information, and C2PA content credentials (a cryptographic signature). When you upload the image, platforms like Meta scan for these markers and automatically attach an AI label — even if the final image is only slightly AI-assisted. Removing the label means removing the metadata. That's exactly what this tool does.

How to remove AI labels — step by step

Step 1: Upload your image. Drop your file into the tool above, or click to browse. Supports JPG, PNG, and WebP. Max 20MB.

Step 2: Choose what to remove. We strip AI EXIF data, XMP tags, C2PA signatures, and all AI-related metadata in one click.

Step 3: Download your clean image. Processing happens instantly in your browser. Your cleaned image is ready to download in seconds.

That's it. No account required to start. No waiting. No upload to any server.

Which AI tools leave labels on your images?

Midjourney (XMP generation parameters), DALL-E / ChatGPT (C2PA content credentials), Adobe Firefly (C2PA + IPTC attribution), Stable Diffusion (PNG text chunks, full generation params), ComfyUI (workflow metadata, node parameters), Leonardo AI (XMP generation signatures), Ideogram (EXIF AI markers), Photoshop AI Fill (C2PA partial AI edit signatures), Runway ML (video/image C2PA signatures). This AI metadata remover strips metadata from all of these — including AI image metadata in exports. To remove the AI generated tag from your photo, process it here before uploading.

Why do platforms add AI labels?

Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok have all adopted policies requiring AI-generated content to be labeled for transparency. Meta uses the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard to automatically detect AI metadata and displays an "AI Info" or "Made with AI" tag on labeled content. Pinterest uses a combination of C2PA detection and its own algorithm to flag and restrict AI-generated images. TikTok automatically labels content when C2PA metadata is detected — which has caused false positives for creators using tools like Runway ML for simple edits. The problem: the detection is not always accurate. Creators using AI for minor edits, background removal, or color correction often find their real photography mislabeled as "AI-generated." This tool gives you back control of your own metadata.

Also removes privacy-sensitive EXIF data

Beyond AI labels, the same tool removes all privacy-sensitive metadata from your photos before sharing online: GPS coordinates (prevents anyone from tracking where a photo was taken), camera make and model (removes device identification), timestamps (strips when and where photos were taken), and device serial numbers (prevents device fingerprinting). Journalists, activists, and privacy-conscious users use this tool for exactly this reason — not just for AI labels. One upload. All metadata gone.

What We Remove

Metadata that triggers AI labels on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and TikTok.

EXIF Data

Camera parameters, timestamps, and device info that can reveal AI tools.

XMP Tags

AI generation parameters from Midjourney, DALL-E, Firefly, Stable Diffusion.

C2PA Signatures

Content credentials that platforms use to auto-detect and label AI content.

PNG Text Chunks

Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI metadata embedded in PNG files.

IPTC Data

AI attribution fields used by Adobe and other tools.

Browser-Only

All processing happens locally. Your images never leave your device.

AI Metadata Remover — What Gets Stripped

"AI metadata" is every invisible marker an AI tool writes into your image file. Here's exactly what this tool removes: XMP tags — generation parameters, prompts, model names, and seed values from Midjourney, DALL-E, Firefly, and others. C2PA credentials — the cryptographic AI signature that Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest scan for to auto-apply labels. IPTC AI attribution — creator and tool attribution fields embedded automatically by Adobe Creative Cloud applications. PNG text chunks — complete workflow data written by Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI into PNG files. EXIF software fields — the AI tool name stored in the standard metadata software identifier block. This AI metadata remover strips all of the above. Batch up to 50 images at once. No account. No limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Contact support@removeailabel.com

Does this guarantee the AI label will be removed?

Removing metadata eliminates the main trigger for AI labels on most platforms. However, some platforms use pixel-level analysis in addition to metadata, and we cannot remove visual watermarks embedded in the image pixels. Results vary by platform. See our disclaimer.

Is it legal to remove AI labels?

Removing metadata from your own images is legal in most jurisdictions. You own your files. However, using this tool to deceive consumers or violate platform terms of service is your responsibility. EU AI Act applies in Europe. See our disclaimer.

Does my image get uploaded to your servers?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your image data is never sent to our servers, never stored, and never shared.

What formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, and WebP. Maximum file size is 20MB.

Will this affect my image quality?

No. Metadata is stored separately from image pixels. Removing it does not change the visual quality of your image. The file size may decrease slightly.

How many images can I process for free?

Unlimited. Process up to 50 images per batch. No account required.

What's the difference between EXIF, XMP, and C2PA?

EXIF is standard camera/device metadata (date, settings). XMP is Adobe's extensible metadata format — AI tools use it to store generation parameters. C2PA is a newer cryptographic standard used by platforms to verify and track content provenance. This tool removes all three.

What about invisible watermarks?

If you want to remove AI watermark from a photo, our tool handles metadata-based markers. Some AI tools (like Google's SynthID) embed watermarks at the pixel level, not in metadata — those cannot be removed by any metadata-only tool. We are transparent about this limitation on our disclaimer page.

Clean your image. Keep your work.

50 images per batch. No account. No daily limit. Most tools charge for this. We don't.

What this tool does and doesn't do

Remove AI Label is a metadata removal tool. It strips EXIF, XMP, IPTC, and C2PA data from image files. Processing happens entirely in your browser — your images are never uploaded to our servers.

What we can do

  • Remove metadata-based AI markers from image files
  • Strip C2PA content credentials from supported formats
  • Remove XMP generation parameters (prompts, seeds, models)
  • Inject placeholder camera EXIF data (Pro feature)

What we cannot do

  • Remove pixel-level invisible watermarks (such as Google SynthID or Stability AI's watermarking)
  • Guarantee that platforms will not detect AI content through means other than metadata (visual analysis, etc.)
  • Remove all forms of AI attribution in every context
  • Guarantee results across all platforms and all future algorithm updates

No guarantee of effectiveness

Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, and other platforms continuously update their detection systems. Removing metadata is effective against metadata-based detection. It may not be effective against AI image classifiers that analyze visual patterns, pixel-level watermarks, or future detection methods. We make no guarantee that using this tool will prevent AI labels from appearing on any specific platform.
