I sell printable wall art and POD mugs on Etsy. My workflow is straightforward: design in Photoshop, drop the art into a mockup, export JPG, upload listing photos, post the same image to Instagram for traffic.
For months, no issue. Then listings — and Instagram promos — started showing
Pre-upload checklist for Etsy Listing Photos Get AI Labels After Photoshop
- Finalize your export — no extra apps after cleaning.
- Spot-check one hero image in the AI metadata checker.
- Strip metadata with Remove AI Label — 30 images per batch.
- Upload before posting to Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest.
- Deliver a Social_Ready folder so clients never re-upload RAW files with C2PA.
One master JPG is enough
Keep a master JPG after Lightroom or Photoshop. Remove C2PA and XMP once, then reuse for feed, Story, ads, and marketplace listings — as long as you do not send the file through Canva or mobile AI apps again. Each extra app can re-attach provenance markers.
Common mistakes with Etsy Listing Photos Get AI Labels After Photoshop
- Mixed carousel slides — half cleaned, half not; AI Info returns on the next flagged frame.
- Re-export after cleaning — Canva and Adobe Express re-attach provenance.
- Screenshots instead of exports — do not reliably fix metadata.
- Fixing live posts — Instagram does not strip C2PA from stored files; export the original, clean, republish.
Cross-posting and live posts
Same JPG for Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok? Remove metadata once before every channel. Meta and Pinterest scan C2PA and XMP. To fix a live post, download your original export, clean in the browser, upload again — see Remove AI Info from Instagram.
Reduce support tickets
Email clients: "If you see AI Info, it is almost always edit metadata — use Social_Ready." Link AI label false positives in onboarding PDFs.
EXIF vs C2PA
Need camera EXIF for archive or print? Strip only C2PA and XMP, keep standard EXIF when your workflow allows. The checker shows which blocks are present before you clean.
Workflow summary
Inspect one file → batch-clean with Remove AI Label → upload cleaned JPG → deliver Social_Ready copies. Browser-based processing keeps files on your device — useful for client galleries and listing photos.

Why Etsy and Instagram both read the same JPG
Marketplace and social platforms increasingly scan uploads for provenance signals:
- Etsy — C2PA, XMP, EXIF software tags on listing media (policy evolving in 2025–2026)
- Instagram / Facebook — same JPG in your promo post → AI Info under the creative
- Pinterest — pins from your shop inherit the same markers
One uncleaned export propagates across every channel. You are not maintaining three separate image pipelines — you are maintaining one file that either carries metadata or doesn't.
Shoppers rarely notice metadata on the Etsy product page itself. You notice when a Reel promo gets comments asking if the art is AI-generated — even though you drew it by hand. That disconnect is almost always file-level, not a change in Etsy's public listing UI overnight.

When Photoshop editing triggers AI labels on Etsy listings
| Edit in Photoshop | Typical metadata risk |
|---|---|
| Generative Fill / Generative Expand | High — C2PA common |
| Neural Filters, AI Remove | High |
| Manual layers, curves, no AI tools | Lower — still verify export |
| Export → open in Canva → re-export | Medium/High — markers may stack |
| Mockup smart object resize only | Lower — unless template used AI assets |
Rule: Clean at the end of the pipeline, immediately before any upload — Etsy first, then Instagram, then Pinterest.
POD and digital download sellers
Print-on-demand shops often reuse one mockup template across dozens of SKUs. If the template JPG was built with AI background tools, every listing inherits the same marker until you clean each export — or clean the master mockup once and rebuild exports from that clean base.
Seller workflow: clean once, list everywhere
- Finish design + mockup in Photoshop or Canva.
- Export JPG/PNG at Etsy's recommended long edge (2000px+ for zoom).
- Run one listing image through the metadata checker — note C2PA/XMP.
- Batch the full listing set in Remove AI Label — up to 30 images per batch; repeat for large catalogs.
- Upload cleaned files to Etsy listing manager.
- Reuse the same cleaned JPGs for Instagram carousel, Story, and Pinterest — no second export from Photoshop.
Name your folders clearly: Listing_Upload should contain only cleaned files. Keep raw PSD exports elsewhere so you never accidentally grab the wrong JPG during a late-night listing session.
Printful / Redbubble sellers
Using fulfillment mockups? Same rule. The JPG you upload to Etsy is the JPG you promote. See also Redbubble & Printful merch AI policy.
What metadata removal does not do
- Does not change your design pixels or mockup layout
- Does not replace Etsy's seller disclosure obligations where they apply
- Does not guarantee every future platform feature ignores visual AI signals
It does remove the primary file-level triggers (C2PA/XMP) that cause automatic labels today.
Troubleshooting when labels persist
If you cleaned a file and AI Info still appears on a new Instagram upload, check:
- Did you post the cleaned download, or an older copy from Downloads?
- Did Canva or a phone editor re-save the image after cleaning?
- Does the checker show zero C2PA/XMP on the exact file in your camera roll?
Run the checker on the bytes you upload, not on a file with the same filename from yesterday.
Seasonal drops and holiday mockups
Holiday POD peaks (Q4 ornaments, Valentine's mugs) mean rushed mockup batches. If your Photoshop action uses Generative Fill on snow backgrounds, every SKU in the collection inherits the same C2PA until cleaned. Schedule cleaning into the drop checklist the same way you schedule Etsy SEO title updates — before ads go live on Instagram, not after the first labeled Story.
Digital download previews vs listing heroes
Digital download shops upload preview JPGs and mockups separately. Both can carry Photoshop Generative Fill metadata if you extended any canvas for Etsy's aspect ratio. Clean every customer-facing raster — preview, thumbnail, and full listing hero — not only the image buyers see first in search.

AI-generated or AI Info language. The art is mine; the mockup is a template. But Photoshop had written C2PA into the export after I used Generative Fill once to extend a background for a wider hero crop.
If you're an Etsy seller searching "Etsy listing AI label after Photoshop" — the problem usually isn't your product. It's metadata in the listing image file. Fixing that file fixes Etsy, Instagram, and Pinterest in one pass.
