Meta AI (Restyle, backgrounds, generative edits) often writes C2PA provenance into exports.
Upload-prep: clean before Meta reads your file — browser-only.
Use on files you own; follow platform rules — disclaimer.
Recommended workflow: metadata checker → remover
Each AI exporter leaves different fingerprints in your file. Inspect read-only before you strip fields — then use the remover on this page for the upload you will publish.
- Step 1 — inspect your file: AI metadata checker.
- Upload your export to the AI metadata checker (read-only, browser-only)
- Review C2PA, XMP, PNG chunks, and EXIF software strings
- Use the remover above with matching options enabled
- Download the cleaned JPG, PNG, or WebP
- Upload to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, or LinkedIn
After Photoshop, Canva, or compositing
A raw AI download is not automatically upload-ready. Generative Fill, Canva AI backgrounds, or compositing can add C2PA or IPTC AI fields on top of the original export. Always clean the final flat raster you publish — not intermediate layers or PSD masters.
Why Meta AI exports trigger AI Info on Instagram
Meta has publicly tied automated AI disclosure on Instagram and Facebook to content credentials such as C2PA. Meta AI editing features can embed those markers when you save or re-share an image.
That supports transparency — and it is what you typically strip when preparing an upload without metadata-driven labels, as long as you still meet disclosure rules where you operate.

FAQ
Does Meta AI add C2PA or XMP to edited images?
Many Meta AI edits (Restyle, background replace, generative touch-ups in Instagram/Facebook flows) write C2PA-style provenance or XMP into the JPG/PNG you save or re-upload. Always inspect with the metadata checker after export.
Why does Instagram show AI Info after I used Meta AI?
Meta platforms often read the same content credentials on upload. If the file still contains C2PA/XMP from Meta AI, automated AI Info or “Made with AI” disclosure can appear — even when pixels look unchanged.
Can I remove AI Info from a post already live?
Instagram does not strip provenance from published media. Re-export your source, clean metadata in the browser, and publish again when your workflow allows.
Does cleaning Meta AI exports change image quality?
No. Metadata is separate from pixels. Resolution and colors stay the same.
WhatsApp or Messenger re-save?
Avoid sending the cleaned master through chat apps before posting — compression can re-wrap files. Upload the cleaned original directly to Instagram or Facebook.
Stories and Reels covers?
Image Stories and Reel cover thumbnails use the same metadata scans as feed posts. Clean the exact file you upload.
